Providence Presbyterian Church
and
Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity
want to thank everyone who came out to make this event a great success!
The walkers, the runners, the kids who built dog houses, the volunteers, the awards and the pancakes -- those were just a few of our favorite parts. What was yours?
We'd love to hear from you. Please send your review on this year's event to jcovington@criticalmassofcolumbia.com

All three races (5K, 10K and 15K) were part of Columbia Running Club's 2012 Tour de Columbia!

Look out for 2013's Habitat for Humanity Run/Walk
(aka "Hammer the Hills").
It will be our TENTH birthday!

One of our favorite photos from the Build A Doghouse! event:

These girls stuck it out until Julep, the cutest beagle ever, had a new home
made from leftovers from a recent Habitat for Humanity build.
Thank you, girls!

Why? 100% of the proceeds of the Habitat for Humanity Run/Walk goes to support the Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity to build homes in the Cayce/West Columbia area. An added benefit is to increase awareness of Habitat for Humanity, a world-wide, Christian organization that works in partnership with God and people everywhere to build decent, affordable houses in which people can live and grow into all that God intended. Habitat for Humanity challenges people of compassion to provide support - through tax-deductible donations, no-interest loans and volunteer labor - to build or renovate simple, decent houses for the inadequately sheltered. Construction is a partnership venture between volunteers and future homeowners. Houses are sold at no-profit and with a no-interest mortgage paid over a 15- to 25-year period. House payments are recycled into a fund for Humanity used to build more houses.

Where? Start and finish lines are at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Drive, West Columbia, South Carolina. The 10K and 5K courses run through the vista-filled, friendly neighborhood behind Providence Presbyterian Church - between Hwy. 378 and the Saluda River, along rolling hills, long creeks and beautiful scenery.

BUILD A DOGHOUSE!

New this year is an event for kids (5+ years) or adult-kids (ha!) to build dog houses using kits supplied by the Central S.C. Habitat for Humanity, all made with leftovers from recent house builds. Immediately after the start of the Run/Walk events, we'll move over to the other side of the front parking lot for this event.

Can you believe that for every ONE house that Central S.C., there is enough left over to build SEVEN dog houses? There will be approx. five kids per house, four houses, which means we only have 20 registrations for this event. This event is $5 each. Again, it's all for a good cause! It will take approx. two hours of everyone's help to build these four dog houses, and there will be adult supervision from the Central S.C. Habitat for Humanity,
so let's make some homes for some sweet pups out there who need a break from the weather.

Afterwards, the Providence Presbyterian Youth Group will sell these dog houses for $20. If your dog doesn't need a dog house, you can convert it to be part of a chicken coop. Keeping chickens in urban areas is becoming more and more popular for fresh eggs, etc. Something to think about...
