once again part of Columbia Running Club's 2013 Tour de Columbia!

A huge THANK YOU to all who participated and volunteered
at this past Saturday's event. It was a grand success, and it couldn't
been without every one of you who were there.

Results of all three timed events can be found on
Race Management System's (RMS) web site
by clicking here.

Why?  100% of the proceeds of the Habitat for Humanity Run/Walk goes to support the Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity to build homes in the Cayce/West Columbia area. An added benefit is to increase awareness of Habitat for Humanity, a world-wide, Christian organization that works in partnership with God and people everywhere to build decent, affordable houses in which people can live and grow into all that God intended. Habitat for Humanity challenges people of compassion to provide support - through tax-deductible donations, no-interest loans and volunteer labor - to build or renovate simple, decent houses for the inadequately sheltered. Construction is a partnership venture between volunteers and future homeowners. Houses are sold at no-profit and with a no-interest mortgage paid over a 15- to 25-year period. House payments are recycled into a fund for Humanity used to build more houses.

Where? Start and finish lines are at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Drive, West Columbia, South Carolina. The 15K,10K and 5K courses run through the vista-filled, friendly neighborhood behind Providence Presbyterian Church - between Hwy. 378 and the Saluda River, along rolling hills, long creeks and beautiful scenery.

Last year's Build A Doghouse event was so successful, we're doing it again! Kids 5 years and up build dog houses using kits supplied by the Central S.C. Habitat for Humanity. They're all made with leftovers from recent house builds. Immediately after the start of the Run/Walk events, we'll move over to the other side of the front parking lot for this event. These dog houses will be for sale after they're built. Want one? First come, first serve. Claim yours ASAP.

Can you believe that for every ONE house that Central S.C., there is enough left over to build SEVEN dog houses? This year, we're making this event FREE, but donations are gladly accepted. The houses will be for sale again afterwards, and they can be used as dog houses, chicken coops, etc. It will take approx. two hours of everyone's help to build these four dog houses, so let's make some homes for some sweet pups, chickens, whatever out there who need a break from the heat.

Afterwards, the Providence Presbyterian Youth Group will sell these dog houses for $20. If your dog doesn't need a dog house, maybe your chickens need a home. It can be converted to a chicken coop. Keeping chickens in urban areas is becoming more and more popular for fresh eggs, etc. Something to think about...
